Spornia SPG-7 vs SPG-8: Coverage, Packing and Practice Space

Choose SPG-7 when its smaller net footprint suits a properly measured practice area and you expect to pack it away regularly. Choose SPG-8 when you have room for its larger coverage. Neither product’s width and height are a safe minimum room size: your swing, the ball position, roof and surrounding containment need separate clearance.

The size difference is real, but not the whole room plan

The main SPG-7 product specification lists seven feet in width, height and depth; SPG-8 lists eight feet in each. The roof extends above the nominal net height. Do not use a seven- or eight-foot ceiling as evidence that the corresponding model will fit.

Measure from the mat, not the bare floor

Place the intended hitting mat before assessing swing clearance. Check the longest club and every golfer who will use the area, including left- and right-handed players if relevant. Lights, garage-door tracks and beams can intrude into a swing even where the ceiling appears high enough elsewhere.

Plan the ball’s position and the manufacturer’s required net clearance separately from the golfer’s swing space. Also examine plausible misses to the sides and above. Our practice-net guide explains why a net that physically fits can still be unsuitable for a particular room or shot.

Ask Spornia to settle close-fit specifications

The product pages contain inconsistent footer-chart roof units and SPG-8 weight figures. Use the current main product specification as a starting point, then obtain confirmation for a ceiling-critical or carrying-critical purchase. We have not converted those contradictory entries into a precise universal minimum.

Send a simple drawing showing the available width, height, depth and obstructions. Include the mat height and whether you intend to use the roof and side extensions. Do not squeeze the net against a wall or remove intended protection simply to make an advertised footprint fit.

Practice net or projected simulator?

Both models are practice nets with ball-return arrangements. A dark target sheet is not automatically a projection screen. Spornia lists an optional simulator/projection target for SPG-8; confirm the exact target and size for whichever net you choose.

Our net-versus-screen guide explains the difference. A launch monitor, compatible software and display equipment are separate parts of a simulator. If you only need shot data on a tablet, projection may add expense and setup without solving your main practice need.

Try packing before deciding it will be portable

Use Spornia’s setup and pack-away instructions and practice the fold in clear space. Allow room for the frame to open and close as intended. Time the whole routine, including mat storage and accessories, rather than only the moment the net unfolds.

For outdoor practice, follow the current anchoring and weather instructions. Do not invent a wind limit from the fact that stakes are supplied. Inspect the target, netting, seams and frame before use, and stop when damage could compromise containment. Let damp equipment dry before packing it for storage.

Compare complete setups

List the net, suitable mat, required containment accessories and any projection target separately. The distance-tools guide helps with the additional measurement equipment if you need feedback beyond where the ball hits the target.

Buy SPG-7 if the complete measured setup works and the smaller format suits your routine; choose SPG-8 if its larger coverage fits without compromising clearance. The shopping links below do not certify a room or guarantee that every mishit is contained.
