Garmin’s US model announcement gives both watches an AMOLED display and core on-course functions. Its US comparison shows the S50 adding capabilities beyond a golf-only routine. The practical question is whether it replaces another watch or mostly stays in the golf bag.

Would you wear the S50 between rounds?
Try the watch and strap through ordinary daily activities. Consider whether you want to wear it overnight, during other exercise or at work. If another device already meets those needs and you intend to keep using it, the additional S50 features may duplicate a service you own.

PlaysLike is a meaningful but specific difference

List the courses you play and the extra map functions you want. Confirm current coverage and the US subscription offer in the Garmin Golf app before subscribing. A premium map is more valuable when you regularly need to inspect unfamiliar holes than when you only glance at front, middle and back distances.
Compare ownership over your likely period of use. Include any membership you would buy on either watch, not only the hardware difference. Avoid carrying forward a launch promotion or another country’s subscription price.
Use a store demonstration to test the controls
Read the yardage display at a normal wrist distance and navigate the functions you expect to use most. Check how easily you return to the main hole view after examining another screen. A feature that interrupts your routine may see little use, however impressive its description.
Ask about phone requirements for connected features and confirm your phone supports the current app. Music-service subscriptions and bank support are separate checks from the watch having music or payment hardware.
Make the complete purchase decision
