A useful golf-ball distance comparison keeps the golfer, club, conditions and measurement method consistent. This guide explains how to run that comparison and make a buying decision from it. We have no independently measured 2026 distance leaderboard, and the previously claimed Belfry/TrackMan testing and numerical rankings on this page have been withdrawn.
Guide checked: 9 October 2026. We have not carried out robot, launch-monitor or on-course comparative testing of these balls. The trial method below is practical guidance; manufacturer links identify the models being considered.

Choose two clearly identified balls to compare
Start with your present ball and one alternative you can afford to use regularly. Buy a small quantity first. If you want to compare a premium model with your current choice, confirm its generation and condition before the trial.

These are search links, not a claim that either ball is longest. Results can include older stock, different quantities or used balls. Read the actual offer.
Record carry and total distance separately
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact ball and generation | A shared family name can span different designs |
| Club and build | Use the same club, loft setting and shaft for the comparison |
| Carry distance | Separate flight from subsequent roll |
| Total distance | State whether this is measured or an equipment estimate |
| Conditions and equipment | Record wind, surface, indoor/outdoor setting and monitor configuration |
| Ordinary spread | A longest shot alone cannot describe consistency |
Our free carry-distance worksheet gives you a table for your measurements. Label the session clearly so a calm indoor trial does not become confused with a windy range session later.
Run a repeatable comparison
- Warm up normally. Start collecting after you are ready to make representative swings.
- Keep the setup consistent. Use the same club, target and tee arrangement for the two balls.
- Alternate small groups. Switching between balls helps you notice whether a change reflects warming up or fatigue rather than the product.
- Keep a meaningful sample. Record ordinary shots, including their spread. State any exclusions and the reason for them.
- Repeat before committing. A second session can show whether the apparent advantage persists.
If you use a launch monitor, follow its manufacturer setup requirements and establish which values it measures and which it calculates. Record those details with the comparison. A simulator’s estimated roll is not the same as a measured finish position on your own fairway.
Distance is only one part of the choice
Compare familiar chips, pitches and putts as well. A ball that travels farther on one driver shot may still be the wrong regular purchase if its short-game response or cost does not suit you. Consider the club you use into greens and whether the ball’s flight lets you play the shots you intend.
Titleist’s ball-fitting guidance assesses performance through the bag. It is a useful reminder to make the decision from more than the tee shot. Our golf-ball buying guide helps organise the wider shortlist.
Keep product claims tied to their source
Callaway’s 2026 Chrome-family announcement describes design intentions for Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft. Those positions help frame a trial; they do not establish a universal distance winner. The Chrome Soft guide separates the current generation and buying options.
When reading a published test, look for the exact balls, golfer or robot settings, shot count, environment and carry/total definitions. Without those details, a table of numbers gives little help in deciding whether its ranking transfers to your swing.
Make the buying decision from your results
Choose the alternative when the trial shows a useful, repeatable difference in the shots you care about and the ongoing cost makes sense. Keep your present ball when the difference is uncertain. Buy a larger pack after resolving the model, rather than using a bulk offer as the reason to skip the comparison.
