A replacement golf hitting strip must match length, width, installed height and support. SIGPRO Softy, Softy Lite and Carl’s HotShot are not universal substitutes. Measure the recess in your mat before ordering, even if the old strip looks similar to a listing photograph.

The two inches that stop a simple swap
The table uses SIGPRO’s official dimensions and Carl’s HotShot specification. The shared 12-inch width does not make the products interchangeable. HotShot is longer, while each option has a different height.
A too-short strip leaves an unsupported gap. A too-long one can buckle or require a structural alteration. A raised or recessed surface changes where the club meets the ball relative to your stance. Do not treat these as cosmetic differences that will disappear after a few practice sessions.
Measure the recess, support and old part separately
Remove the old insert only as instructed for your mat. Record the opening at the front, middle and back, then measure its depth to the support beneath. Check for a retaining lip, rounded corners or fixing features that a simple rectangular measurement overlooks.
Next, record the old insert’s label and dimensions without forcing compressed turf flat. Photograph any deterioration separately. You want to distinguish the original fit from a shape produced by wear, water damage or a previous owner’s modification. Keep the measurements in inches and include a ruler in photographs sent to the supplier.
A flush top needs firm support below
A visually level surface is not enough if the insert moves under the club. The support must carry the strip as intended, and any surrounding stance surface needs to stay stable as your weight moves. Loose packing material can hide a depth mismatch during installation and settle later.
For a custom platform, give the builder the selected manufacturer’s installation requirements before cutting the opening. Use our hitting-mat planning guide to consider the complete floor build. If changing the strip requires a new support arrangement, price that work before buying the component.
Compatibility questions to send the seller
Send the current mat model, its approximate purchase date, your measurements and photographs. Ask whether the proposed part is a direct replacement for that generation, whether the support needs alteration and which tee type is permitted. Request an answer about the exact selected variant, not the product family generally.
Keep a copy of the response with the order. If the seller cannot identify the old mat, a manufacturer-approved replacement or a complete new surface may be a clearer choice than adapting an unrelated insert. Avoid cutting a new component while you still need to establish whether the supplied item is correct.
Check the finished installation before a full session
After fitting, inspect all edges and gently check for rocking or sliding. Confirm the ball position still lines up with the launch monitor and target. Begin with controlled practice and recheck the fit before increasing session length.
The rest of the bay matters too. Our practice-net guide covers the capture arrangement that needs to work with the renewed surface. A replacement strip should restore a dependable setup; it should not create a new height or movement problem merely to reuse the existing mat.
