Use the centre-shaft Seven models for a fair starting point

Odyssey’s Ai-ONE Square 2 Square #7 and TRI-HOT #7 centre-shaft model provide a specific family comparison. Do not substitute a TRI-HOT Single Bend, Cruiser or another head shape without acknowledging that the question has changed. Newer Ai-DUAL products also have their own identities.

The TRI-HOT model lists a two-layer urethane Ai-DUAL insert and its own complete specifications. Those differences justify a trial, but a newer face technology does not automatically make an existing Ai-ONE unsuitable. Compare what you can control with the putters actually offered to you.

An upgrade comparison with clear boundaries
Question What to check
Are both the same head family? Seven centre-shaft versions, identified in full
Does each fit your setup? Length, lie, loft, grip and comfortable address
What changes at impact? Feel preference separated from finishing distance
Is an older offer genuinely cheaper? Condition, exact build and complete UK price
Does the upgrade solve anything? A repeatable improvement in your chosen putting task

If you already own Ai-ONE, begin with a problem

Write down what you want to improve before trying TRI-HOT. Perhaps longer putts regularly finish short, or the address picture does not feel settled. Use that observation to design the trial. If your current putter works well, a change can still be a preference purchase, but it should not be presented as a necessary upgrade.

Bring the existing putter in its normal condition and use a familiar ball. A new grip or different length on the demonstrator may affect the comparison, so record those differences. The useful result is a better complete build, not a vague conclusion that the newer generation must be superior.

Give the pace test enough variety

Alternate short groups at more than one distance. Compare starts on a short putt and finishing distance on longer putts. Where the practice area permits, include uphill and downhill tasks. This reveals whether the response is comfortable across the shots that matter rather than only on a flat shop mat.

Note sound and feel separately from the roll outcome. An insert can feel different without changing how consistently you reach the intended area. Conversely, a useful pace result may take a little familiarisation. Avoid judging either club from the first few putts or a single unexpected make.

Treat an older UK offer as an individual club

Check whether it is unused stock, a demonstrator or used. Ask for the actual length, grip, shaft and any modifications. For a used club, request the original specification and condition photographs. The manufacturer’s archived product page describes a design, not the present state of that individual putter.

Compare the delivered total with a TRI-HOT order that matches your fit. Include any necessary grip replacement or approved work. A discounted club that needs changes can still be worthwhile, but the price difference should be calculated after those changes are understood.

Choose the fitted result you can actually buy

Our Odyssey family guide helps separate product names. The balance-design guide provides context for the fitting, while the exact head and build remain the relevant purchase.

Choose the older Ai-ONE when its actual specification and condition work for you at a useful saving. Choose TRI-HOT when the fitted trial gives you a clear reason to prefer it and the complete price is acceptable. If both perform similarly, keeping your current putter is a legitimate outcome.

Shopping results can mix Ai-ONE, Ai-DUAL, TRI-HOT and several neck arrangements. Read the full model and shaft description before ordering.
