A self-contained R50 and a discounted SKYTRAK+ can both support useful home practice, but their item prices buy different workflows. Compare the same finished room, exact software entitlements and any external device before deciding which complete UK purchase is better value.

The UK monitor prices start far apart
On 13 September 2026, GolfBays displayed the Garmin R50 at £4,299 and SKYTRAK+ at £1,295 with one year of Core software, each marked in stock on the page checked. These are dated item offers, subject to checkout and availability. They are not installed simulator totals, and the £3,004 difference does not compare identical computing or software arrangements.
| Purchase element | R50 route | SKYTRAK+ route |
|---|---|---|
| Monitor reference | £4,299 dated item price | £1,295 dated item price |
| Everyday display | Built-in screen for supported modes | Compatible separate device |
| Course play | Membership for Home Tee Hero | Exact included Core entitlement and renewal |
| Projected image | Suitable projector/screen and HDMI | Suitable display route from chosen device |
| Shared essentials | Mat,containment and safe room layout | Mat,containment and safe room layout |
What the R50 removes from a basic setup
The R50 manual documents onboard practice and Home Tee Hero course play, with Garmin Golf membership required for the latter. For these supported onboard modes, you are not buying a separate computer simply to run the display. Its HDMI output can feed an external display at up to 1080p; the cable is separate.
That convenience is most valuable when you want to turn on one main device and practise. It does not remove the need for a suitable mat and ball containment. Nor does an onboard simulator mean every third-party program runs inside the R50. If your goal is a particular external simulator, have the seller specify its computer, licence and connection requirements separately.
What the lower SKYTRAK+ price leaves to resolve
The ST+ technical reference identifies a radar-and-camera model, distinct from ST MAX. Its setup instructions require device registration, a compatible application and initial internet access to synchronise entitlements. Check your actual tablet or computer against the version of the software you intend to run; possession of a screen is not proof of compatibility.
The GolfBays offer names one year of Core, while the same page lists different Core add-ons. Ask which exact course package and activation code are included, when the year starts and what renewal restores. Do not pay for a duplicate first-year licence or assume the same course library persists without renewal. A one-year inclusion is a useful saving only if it covers the mode you want.
Price two finished versions of the same room
Give the retailer one room drawing and one intended use: for example, a solo practice bay with an existing display, or projected course play with friends. Request both quotations using the same containment standard, hitting surface and installation scope. Otherwise the apparent hardware saving can hide a cheaper screen, omitted protection or an unsuitable computer.
Ask the installer to mark the golfer, ball and monitor positions for both right- and left-handed use where relevant. Side-mounted equipment still needs room around the strike area and protection appropriate to its manufacturer. A product photograph does not confirm clearance for your swing or the rebound space behind an impact screen.
Make the software demonstration part of the decision
Try one short practice session and start a course using the quoted entitlements. On the R50, include the prescribed club-sticker routine if club data matters. On SKYTRAK+, use the proposed external device. Save the session and find it again; a system that is pleasant to start but awkward to review may not serve your practice plan.

Check the exact model, generation and seller. Results can include alternatives; a search link does not confirm availability. Use the official supplier links for specialist products and services.
Choose R50 when its onboard routine earns the larger complete bill. Keep the available ST+ offer in contention when the lower hardware price leaves enough budget for the external device and renewals you actually need. Our SKYTRAK generation guide and subscription guide help check those boundaries before ordering.
