Snell PR4 starts from a lower one-dozen product price than PXG Xtreme Tour X, but the delivered-cost winner needs your checkout. More importantly, compare their actual approach flight: a fourth layer and an X label do not establish equivalent performance.

Compare the current named models
The current Snell PR4 page specifies four-piece construction with a TPU-X urethane cover and a published compression range of 85–90. PXG’s Tour-family introduction identifies Xtreme Tour X as three-piece urethane. The current Tour X page positions it for higher flight and more spin than standard Xtreme Tour.
That is not a measured PR4-versus-PXG flight ranking. Each company describes its own product and family. Do not call PR4 the same as an older Snell Prime 4.0 or assume every ball called X has the same purpose.

The $5 product gap is not a complete quote
The dated one-dozen product amounts differ by $5. PXG’s shipping policy supplies a $10 ground golf-ball rate, while the Snell policy needs the actual small-order checkout for a charge. We therefore cannot declare a delivered winner for your address.
Do not treat Snell’s qualifying bulk free-shipping offer as a one-dozen benefit. Equally, do not substitute a verified Heroes discount for PXG’s ordinary public price unless you personally qualify and it applies to the chosen item. Compare standard orders first, then your eligible offers as a separate calculation.
If you are unsure about PR4 versus PR3, Snell’s named test-pack route can help shortlist within the brand. For this cross-brand decision, you still need enough of the exact PR4 and Tour X to repeat the shots that matter.
Use an approach that exposes a real tradeoff
Pick a target where both the front carry and back stopping boundary matter. Hit the same familiar iron with both balls. Record the first landing point and final finish for normal strikes. If one lands farther and rolls less, that is a different result from simply rolling farther after a short carry.
Use available launch-monitor information to explain repeated observations. Keep carry, spin and descent together. A low driver-spin label does not guarantee the approach trajectory you need, and a higher-spin family description does not prove a better result for every player.
Our Snell range guide supplies context. The materials guide explains why counting layers alone does not decide the fitting.
Try the pitch and putt you actually use
Alternate models from a consistent short-game lie to a defined landing area. Decide whether the finish is predictable enough to plan. Do not choose only from an exceptional spin shot that you rarely attempt during a round.
On the putting green, use your usual putter and pace routine. Keep a separate note of sensation rather than using feel as an invented measurement of cover softness or spin. If both balls are unfamiliar, retain a few of your current model as a benchmark.
Reorder only after normal play confirms the choice
Save the model, color and generation that you trialed. Avoid a mixed used-ball lot when the goal is to learn the behavior of a specific new model. A low initial cost loses its meaning if the delivered assortment prevents a reliable comparison.

Check the exact model, generation and seller. Results can include alternatives; a search link does not confirm availability. Use the official supplier links for specialist products and services.
Choose PR4 or Tour X when its repeated performance supports your targets at a cost you are comfortable paying. If the results are close, the actual delivered total and convenient repeat supply can reasonably decide the purchase.
