SIGPRO Softy and Softy Lite share a nominal footprint, but they are not interchangeable drop-in replacements. The main decisions are installed height and whether you want to push real tees into the strip. Choose the surrounding platform first, then match the insert to it.

The shared footprint can hide a height problem
Those measurements come from SIGPRO’s strip specifications. The height difference is 1.25 inches. A Lite strip in a recess designed for the full Softy can leave the ball below your feet; the reverse substitution can leave a raised hitting area.
Do not solve this simply by stacking loose material under an insert. A retrofit needs a stable, supported installation with the top surfaces aligned. Measure the actual recess at several points, including the supporting floor and any retaining lip. An old mat’s compressed turf can make a nominal dimension an unreliable description of its current condition.
Decide how you want to tee the ball
For regular driver practice with wooden tees, the full Softy has the straightforward specification advantage. For Lite, plan an appropriate above-surface simulator tee instead. That adds a small accessory choice but may suit a shallower platform better.
Check the usable tee-height range with your driver and ball position. A tee described as a certain height may be measured differently from the amount that stands above your particular mat. Buy one compatible style to try before ordering a bulk pack, and keep spare tees away from the hitting zone.
Compare the setup rather than a softness claim
Neither the word Softy nor a foam description tells us how a particular golfer’s joints will respond. We have not impact-tested these strips. If practice becomes uncomfortable, stop and review the surface, session volume and technique rather than using the product name as reassurance.
The practical comparison is whether the strip stays stable, sits flush and provides feedback you understand. A forgiving surface can make a heavy strike feel less severe without proving that the corresponding shot would have been good from grass. Keep a note of contact quality alongside launch-monitor results. our hitting-mat planning guide covers the surrounding stance area and room layout.
Ordering a replacement without rebuilding the bay
Take three photos: the complete mat, the recess with a ruler across it, and the underside/support arrangement. Send those with the exact existing product name to the supplier if the generation is uncertain. Specify full Softy or Softy Lite in the written order; avoid a listing that uses both names without an identifiable selected variant.
Both strips in the referenced specification are intended for residential indoor use. If your practice space is outdoors or exposed to damp, establish suitability before choosing either. Factor in the complete surface build, a suitable tee and replacement access rather than comparing the insert price alone. A correctly fitted strip is more useful than a nominal upgrade that introduces a step under the ball.
Who should choose each
Shortlist full Softy when your bay already supports its height and real tees matter. Shortlist Lite when the shallower build matches the platform and an above-surface tee is acceptable. If neither fits the existing recess, price a properly designed platform change before purchasing. Check the capture arrangement at the same time using our practice-net guide.
