PING i240 vs Older i530: UK Fitted Set or Used-Stock Value?

An older i530 set can be good value when its actual build and club makeup fit your game. Compare the complete cost and approach gaps with a fitted i240 order, because the two sets have different standard lofts.

A club number is not an equal-distance comparison

PING’s official charts list a standard i240 7-iron at 33° and i530 7-iron at 29°. Their standard pitching wedges also differ, at 45° and 42°. These facts explain why a longer i530 7-iron result alone does not settle the buying decision. Compare the useful set of approach distances rather than the number stamped on one club.

What a used i530 set must match
Check Why it changes the value calculation
Loft configuration Standard, Power and Retro specifications are different
Actual length and lie A colour code cannot establish later alterations
Set contents Missing wedges or long clubs may create extra purchases
Shaft and grip condition Replacements add to the complete bill
Useful gaps More distance is helpful only where it fills a real shot

Build the i240 baseline before inspecting the bargain

Ask for an i240 fitting that includes your current set and more than one iron. Establish the longest iron you can use reliably and the scoring-club transition. Save the exact shaft, length, lie and loft specification. This creates a concrete alternative to the used purchase instead of comparing an unspecified fitted set with an appealing advertisement.

Then inspect the offered i530 set as it exists. Request photographs of every head and shaft label, ask about extensions or reshafting, and have the measurements checked if the purchase depends on them. A description such as standard stiff does not identify shaft weight, model or the current club length.

Count the whole set you would play

Write the clubs in two columns. If the i240 quote includes a utility wedge and the i530 offer ends at pitching wedge, add the suitable extra club to the older-set total. Likewise, do not pay for a long iron you intend to replace immediately merely to make both offers contain the same number of clubs.

Your existing wedges may fit one route more easily than the other. Test the longest wedge with each proposed pitching wedge, using ordinary full and partial shots. The factory loft chart gives a starting point, while the carry distances tell you whether the combination works for you.

Treat condition as a fitting variable as well as a cost

A worn grip can change how confidently you hold the club during the trial. A replacement shaft may alter the intended feel. Get these issues described and priced before deciding the used set failed or succeeded. Cosmetic marks alone should be judged separately from a damaged shaft, loose component or uncertain modification history.

Our PING range guide explains the specification terminology. The used-club guide covers transaction checks, while this comparison focuses on whether an older i530 set can fulfil the same bag needs as a fitted i240 order.

Choose after adding the adjustments

Add inspection, grips, any accepted workshop work, delivery and necessary extra clubs to the i530 offer. Compare that figure with the complete i240 quote and the results of a useful trial. Choose the used route when the actual set works without an expensive rescue project. Choose the fitted route when it solves gaps or contact problems the available older set cannot.

Search listings may include individual irons and modified sets. Confirm the complete description before ordering; no current i530 stock or universal saving is assumed here.
