US Left-Handed Custom Irons: Check Availability Before Paying for Fitting

Before booking a left-handed iron fitting, confirm both the heads you can test and the complete set you can order. A manufacturer’s left-handed range listing is not a promise that a particular store has the fitting head, shaft or every matching wedge.

Ask about the fitting kit, not only the sales stock

Tell the store which models you want to compare and your likely shaft-weight range. Ask whether it has left-handed demonstration heads that connect to those shafts. A shop may be able to order a club without being able to assemble that exact combination during your session.

If your preferred head is unavailable to test, decide beforehand whether an alternative session is still worthwhile. A fitting with a different head can provide useful information, but the final recommendation should identify what was directly tested and what was inferred.

Our shaft-weight guide can help you describe the shortlist more precisely than “left-handed stiff irons.” Include your current playing length and any previous fitting recommendation, while remaining open to a different result.

Check the scoring clubs and adjustment limits

The ZXiR HL sand-wedge restriction illustrates a common ordering trap: a range can be left-handed without every club being available in that hand. Work through the full bag and identify the first club outside the proposed set.

The same US configurator marks its three-degree lie adjustments as right-hand-only. Do not assume the largest displayed adjustment is available for every selection. Ask for the final accepted order specification, especially when your fitting recommendation approaches a catalog limit.

Use the wedge-gapping guide to plan the transition into a separately sourced wedge. Matching the brand is less useful than finding a suitable loft, sole and usable carry gap.

Set a useful appointment goal

Bring your own irons as a baseline and identify the problem you want to solve: a poor long-iron gap, uncomfortable weight, inconsistent start direction or another repeatable issue. Do not make “try everything” the only plan if the relevant left-handed demonstrators are limited.

Ask the fitter to preserve a record of the tested head, shaft, length, lie and ball. If the final order changes one of these, discuss why. An orderable substitute should not silently become the same as the club that produced the fitting result.

Get an accepted build before paying a deposit

Request a written quote covering exact clubs, shaft, grip, adjustments, total cost and current delivery estimate. Ask what happens if one component becomes unavailable. Decide whether you would wait, change the specification or cancel before a substitution is proposed under time pressure.

Left-handed availability also affects future replacements. Keep the order specification and identifying records, especially for a set assembled with individual scoring clubs. Our PING range overview is background context rather than a US stock guarantee.

The goal is a fitting you can reproduce in an actual order. A smaller confirmed shortlist is more useful than paying for an appointment built around right-handed examples you cannot evaluate in your own swing.
