G/FORE golf shoes are easiest to choose by separating their styling from three practical decisions: the fit, the precise outsole and the upper’s stated weather protection. Gallivanter, G.112 and the G/LOCK variants are not interchangeable names. Build a shortlist around the rounds you play, then compare the exact product pages. A limited colour release can look appealing without changing any feature that matters to your feet.

Read the full family name
The UK range lists families including Gallivanter, G.112, Gallivan2r, MG4+ O2 and G/18, with separate spiked and spikeless filters. Those filters help narrow the field but should not replace the individual description. In particular, a familiar family can have additional words that identify a different traction arrangement. Understand the documented Gallivanter
The pebble-leather Gallivanter reference is style GMF000001. Its current description specifies water-repellent leather, a removable washable footbed and a fixed traction design; it points separately to G/LOCK styles for a spiked version. Treat the water-repellent wording precisely. It is not a licence to call every Gallivanter waterproof, and reviews of a different year do not override the construction on the pair you are buying. Treat the width option as a separate choice
The linked Gallivanter page says its regular fit runs narrow and also identifies an extra-wide option. That is a useful reason to try the intended width rather than buying a longer size by reflex. The source’s size advice is manufacturer guidance, not a fit result for your feet. Compare heel retention and forefoot room together. If the wide version releases pressure but introduces heel movement, another shoe shape may be the better answer.
Decide between a fixed sole and G/LOCK
A player who changes shoes at the car and regularly walks soft slopes may have different outsole priorities from someone using a dry practice range after work. Assess the actual cleat or moulded traction system on the candidate, including any replacement-parts requirement. Do not infer grip from a broad category count or from a bold outsole photograph. Test the footbed rather than its reputation
The shaped footbed is part of the Gallivanter’s documented design. Its texture may feel different from the smoother insoles in your existing shoes, so include that sensation in the trial instead of assuming it will disappear. Wear the normal thickness of sock and check for local pressure under the arch and forefoot. If you use your own insert, ask whether substitution is suitable and check that it does not lift the heel too high in the collar.
Be precise about cleaning materials
G/FORE’s linked pebble-leather page advises spot cleaning with leather cleaner and a soft cloth, and separately permits washing the removable insert. Those are different operations. Permission to wash an insert does not mean the whole shoe belongs in a washing machine. A G.112 in nylon or suede also needs its own care instructions. Choosing a finish you can clean sensibly after your usual rounds is more practical than choosing solely for how it looks new.
Make the final comparison on useful features
For each remaining pair, compare model code, upper finish, width, outsole and the exact protection wording. Add whether you can try it locally or return it after an indoor fitting. A standard colour in the correct width is usually a stronger candidate than a limited design in the wrong shape.
