Try OPTM MAX-K when you want to investigate stability across ordinary misses; add MAX-D when draw bias is relevant to your usual shot pattern. Compare equivalent builds before deciding: a draw-biased head is not a guaranteed cure for a slice.

What separates the two heads
Cobra describes MAX-K as its highest-MOI driver and MAX-D as a draw-biased option with a fixed heel weight. Both use 460cc heads and FutureFit33 adjustment. These are design distinctions, not evidence that one will improve every player’s accuracy.
| Question | MAX-K starting point | MAX-D starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Main reason to try it | Stability across impact locations | Whether draw bias improves the usual pattern |
| Published stock length | 45.5 inches | 45.5 inches |
| Important configuration check | Exact loft, shaft and balance | Exact loft, shaft and standard or Lite build |
| Result that matters | Useful carry and manageable misses | Whether the curve improves without creating a worse opposite miss |
Do not copy the comparison graphic’s full loft list into an order without checking the detailed stock chart. Cobra’s MAX-D page shows 10.5- and 12-degree stock rows, while its family graphic also mentions 9 degrees. The chosen configuration needs confirmation from the supplier.
Describe your miss accurately
Use several recent rounds rather than your last bad drive. Note whether the ball starts off target, curves excessively, or varies in both directions. For a left-handed player, describe the intended draw direction relative to the player rather than borrowing right-handed instructions about moving the ball left.
Bring those notes to the fitting and show the fitter your current driver. Ask which part of the pattern a head change is expected to address. If strike location is the main issue, the test may need a length or setup adjustment as well as a different head.
Make the first comparison fair
Use the same ball and comparable shafts, grips and playing lengths where possible. Record the complete specification of each club. Identical flex letters are not enough: the stock shaft choices and balance can differ, changing how the clubs feel during the swing.
Our shaft weight guide explains why total build matters. Hit in alternating groups and include representative poor strikes. You are choosing a driver for the whole round, so the result should not discard every shot except the fastest few.
Look separately at carry, start direction and the width of the finishing pattern. If MAX-D reduces one miss but creates an equally severe miss on the other side, discuss whether a different setting or build would be more useful. An attractive average can hide an uncomfortable two-sided pattern.
Keep Lite builds distinct
Cobra describes a MAX-D Lite custom route using a lighter head weight and grip. It should be compared as a complete alternative, not assumed identical to a standard MAX-D with a lighter shaft. Ask the shop to identify which version you tested and which components appear in the quote.
Similarly, do not shorten a purchased driver casually and expect the same result as the fitting club. Use the driver length guide to discuss the finished length and any balance work with the builder.
Order the tested configuration

Check the exact model, generation and seller. Results can include alternatives; a search link does not confirm availability. Use the official supplier links for specialist products and services.
The better choice is the one that turns your common misses into playable outcomes while retaining useful carry. If neither does that consistently, keep the fitting open instead of choosing a head because its name sounds more forgiving.
