Arccos Air vs Smart Sensors: Choose the Data You Want to Capture

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Choose Arccos Air without club sensors when you want to record rounds with minimal changes to your equipment and will review suggested club information afterward. Choose Smart Sensors when automatic identification of the club used matters. You can also combine compatible sensors with Air; these are two ways of collecting data within the same platform.

Shot detection and club identification are separate jobs

Arccos explains that the sensorless Air wearable detects shots, while grip-mounted Smart Sensors identify clubs automatically. That distinction matters more than treating either product as an all-purpose promise of perfect statistics.

Choose the data-collection routine
Setup What it changes Work to plan
Air without club sensors No tags on the set Review suggested club information
Smart Sensors with phone or supported watch Automatic club identification Pair clubs and use a supported detection device
Air plus compatible sensors Wearable detection plus club identification Maintain both device and club setup

Start from the question you want the data to answer

If you want to compare two hybrids or establish which wedge you repeatedly use from a certain distance, dependable club labeling matters. Sensors can reduce the need to reconstruct that information from memory.

If you mainly want a record of where a round went wrong and frequently use rental clubs, sensorless Air may be a better fit. You still need to review the round: an automatically captured record can contain a missed shot, an incorrect suggestion or an unusual situation requiring correction.

Consider the sets you actually play

A golfer with one regular bag can install and maintain a consistent sensor arrangement. Someone who borrows clubs, rotates several sets or travels with a rental-set plan has a different practical problem. Avoid buying enough tags for every possible club before deciding how often those clubs need detailed records.

Our shot-tracking guide explains why useful statistics depend on the recording routine as well as the hardware. Neither arrangement eliminates the need to distinguish ordinary shots from recovery attempts when interpreting results.

Check old sensors before adding Air

The current compatibility page includes second-, third- and fourth-generation sensors and supported integrated grip systems. It excludes first-generation Bluetooth sensors, the Bluetooth putter sensor and Arccos Driver.

Identify the exact set rather than judging it from a photograph or the fact that it once worked with an older Arccos app. If the seller cannot establish its generation, obtain confirmation before valuing it as part of a complete Air setup.

Make the first recorded round a useful test

Set up your actual bag, choose the correct course and detection mode, and charge the recording device. After the round, compare the record with your scorecard while the shots are still fresh. Check penalties, short putts and any club changes carefully.

Keep a note of the time needed to correct the record. A system that provides useful data but demands more editing than you will maintain may be a poor purchase for your habits.

Compare hardware and membership separately

The Air hardware-only package is intended for existing Game Tracking subscribers. A new customer should compare it with the current package that includes membership, then check renewal terms. Hardware ownership is not the same as continued service access.

Our distance-tools hub helps connect recorded performance with club-distance decisions. Choose Air for equipment flexibility, sensors for automatic club identification, or both when reducing phone-in-pocket use and preserving club detail are worth the combined setup.
