Order a replacement Carl’s impact screen from the enclosure model and finished attachment details, not from the projected image size alone. A screen with the right aspect ratio can still have the wrong edge finish or bottom arrangement. Find the original order, photograph the attachments and have Carl’s confirm the replacement before removing a usable screen.

Identify the screen you actually own
Start with the invoice, order number and any enclosure manual supplied with the purchase. Note whether the system is DIY, Pro, Curved or a custom installation, and whether it belongs to the current C-Series or an earlier design. A familiar nominal size does not establish that the attachment pattern stayed unchanged.
Carl’s screen-finish guidance distinguishes standalone screens from those supplied with an enclosure. It also describes differences between older Pro screen attachment arrangements and current flap-based designs. This is why a generic replacement selected only by width deserves a second check.
Record three different sets of dimensions
| Measurement | What it describes | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Enclosure outside size | Overall installed frame | Identifies the structure and room footprint |
| Finished screen size | Fabric including the specified edges | Defines the replacement order |
| Viewable area | Usable projected rectangle | Defines image alignment and aspect ratio |
Ask Carl’s how it wants the installed screen measured. Fabric under tension, loose edges and folded flaps can make an informal tape measurement misleading. Send measurements with clearly labeled photographs rather than guessing a correction from the frame opening.
Document the top, sides and bottom separately
Photograph grommets, flaps, hook-and-loop areas and the way the lower edge is secured. Current enclosure screens can use a bottom sleeve and cable so the surface reaches the floor; a standalone classic finish is a different configuration.
Do not assume an identical number of grommets proves compatibility. Their position, the edge construction and the intended fasteners all affect installation. If the original screen was custom made, retain that specification instead of substituting the nearest standard size.
Inspect the retained hardware before buying only fabric
Check the frame, connectors, padding, fasteners and surrounding material for wear or damage. A replacement screen cannot correct a distorted frame or restore missing protection. Tell the supplier if any components were altered after installation.
Keep the existing screen in place until the replacement specification is agreed, unless its condition requires you to stop using it. Our impact-screen guide explains how screen condition and the surrounding installation work together.
Choose a material upgrade for a specific reason
If you want a different screen surface, identify the problem: visible texture, distracting wear, lighting or another observed issue. Ask for the available materials in the confirmed replacement finish. Do not assume that a higher-priced fabric will solve an alignment or tension problem.
We have not measured the available materials side by side. Review samples or a demonstration where possible, and keep manufacturer descriptions separate from independent performance evidence. Replacing worn fabric with the same correct specification may be the sensible choice.
Agree on the complete replacement order
Have the quotation state enclosure generation, finished screen dimensions, material, edge construction, lower attachment and any replacement fasteners. Ask whether custom-item returns differ from standard products and what evidence is needed if the delivered screen does not match the agreed order.
Follow the manual for the identified system when fitting and tensioning it. Do not copy an unrelated online diagram or invent universal grommet spacing. Recheck the projected image and inspect protection before resuming practice.
