FlightScope Firmware Before a Used Mevo Purchase: What to Check

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Before buying a used FlightScope Mevo, establish whether the listing is for the original Mevo, Mevo+ or Mevo Gen2. Then check that exact unit’s firmware, supported host app and transferable software rights. An update can correct software problems, but it cannot turn one hardware model into another.

Identify the hardware from the unit, not the listing headline

Ask for a clear view of the model identification and the device information shown in its supported app. A seller may use “Mevo” as shorthand for several different products. The name on the hardware and its recognized model in the app should agree.

FlightScope’s firmware register maintains separate entries for the models and separate app support lists. The current Gen2 product page describes a particular new product and bundle; those features should not be copied onto an older used unit.

Keep these four checks separate
Check Evidence to request What it cannot prove alone
Exact hardware Model label and recognized device information Current software entitlement
Firmware Installed version shown in supported app Battery or sensor condition
Host app Current supported phone, tablet or PC Every third-party simulator works
License and upgrades Transferable rights confirmed with supplier New-product warranty or bundle applies

Compare installed firmware with the current official route

Have the seller show the installed version and check it against FlightScope’s current instructions for that model. The register directs updates through FS Golf. Do not download an unofficial firmware file because a forum post claims it fixes a similar problem.

If an update is needed, ask for it to be completed through the legitimate workflow before the final demonstration, with appropriate power and time. Record what changed. Do not accept “just needs an update” as an explanation for a unit that cannot be shown working.

Check whether your existing host is still suitable

Inspect the current app requirements against the phone, tablet or PC you will use. Old screenshots may show an earlier app version running on hardware no longer suitable for the current release. Include any required host replacement in the used-price comparison.

Practice software and simulator software can have different requirements. A unit connecting to a phone for range data does not establish that the proposed PC course-play arrangement is supported. Our FlightScope guide provides family context without replacing the current model-specific requirements.

Verify upgrades and course licenses before valuing them

Ask which paid feature upgrades and software entitlements are included in the sale and whether they can be transferred. A new Gen2 product page advertising bundled courses is not evidence that a particular secondhand monitor comes with unused or transferable licenses.

Have FlightScope or the relevant software supplier confirm the process for the exact unit. A seller’s existing account login should not become the purchase arrangement. Preserve the written answer and invoice rather than relying on a photograph of a license screen.

Our subscription and licensing guide helps keep one-time feature upgrades separate from recurring applications and the monitor itself.

Ask for an ordinary working demonstration

Observe startup, connection, a representative group of shots and shutdown. Check the charging connection, battery behavior and supplied power equipment. Inspect the casing and relevant optical or radar areas for damage through an appropriate in-person or seller demonstration.

The demonstration must use a suitable environment and the model’s setup instructions. Strange readings in an improvised room do not automatically identify a faulty sensor, but they also do not establish a sound purchase. If the seller cannot demonstrate the intended functions, treat that uncertainty as part of the decision.

Compare the complete used cost with a supported alternative

Add missing accessories, legitimate software costs, any host upgrade and the actual warranty position. Buy the used unit when its identity, working condition and usable rights are clear. Avoid paying for a newer model’s advertised benefits when the device and transferable package in front of you are different.
