RPT and RCT are not interchangeable labels for a better simulator ball. Use RPT for the measured-spin workflow specified for Rapsodo MLM2PRO. Use RCT when your exact indoor radar monitor is validated for it and has the required firmware. Buy by monitor compatibility first, then by the underlying ball model.

The letters describe different measurement aids
Rapsodo’s RPT FAQ describes an exterior pattern read by MLM2PRO’s Impact Vision camera. Titleist’s RCT explanation describes an internal radar-reflective marker intended to improve indoor radar capture. One is a camera-readable pattern; the other assists the radar signal.
That technical difference is why a retailer grouping both under “simulator golf balls” is not enough to choose correctly. Check the full product name and packaging, not just whether the ball is a Pro V1 or Pro V1x.
| Your setup | What to investigate | What not to substitute |
|---|---|---|
| MLM2PRO measured spin | Correct RPT ball | RCT or ordinary ball as equivalent spin support |
| Validated indoor radar monitor | Correct RCT model and firmware | Any marked ball merely because it has dots |
| Camera monitor with standard-ball support | That manufacturer’s instructions | Unnecessary radar ball upgrade |
| Unknown used monitor | Exact model and current manual | A seller’s generic simulator-ball recommendation |
For MLM2PRO, RPT is the relevant distinction
Rapsodo explicitly says RCT does not replace the RPT requirement for MLM2PRO measured spin rate and spin axis. Its US Titleist RPT offering uses the corresponding underlying ball with the added exterior pattern. That lets a golfer investigate a familiar ball model without confusing the standard retail version with the monitor-specific one.
Do not infer that the original Rapsodo MLM, MLM2PRO and newer family members have identical ball requirements. Similar product names and old support discussions can obscure which camera or radar process is being described.
For RCT, read the exact validated list
Titleist’s checked indoor list names TrackMan 4, Garmin Approach R10, Full Swing KIT, FlightScope X3 and Mevo+, with current firmware required. The list should not be extended to every radar device or a differently named generation without confirmation.
Our R10 guide provides model context. If your monitor is absent from the current compatibility evidence, ask its manufacturer before paying extra for RCT. A ball’s availability does not prove your device will produce the additional reading you want.
Control the practice comparison
Use one ball type for a comparison session and inspect it for damage or contamination. Record which model and marking technology you used. Mixing ordinary balls, RPT balls and RCT balls within an unlabelled data set can make later comparisons difficult to interpret.
Separate ball speed, spin and calculated carry in your notes. A change in displayed distance may follow from a different input or mode rather than a real improvement in your swing. Keep device placement and software settings consistent while testing the chosen ball.
Our indoor versus outdoor guide explains why short indoor ball flight creates different measurement requirements from outdoor practice. The appropriate ball is one part of the setup, not a substitute for correct alignment and operating space.
Check the US buying route and replacement routine
For Titleist RPT, check the Titleist Pro V1x RPT balls at Rapsodo US, or use a seller whose exact product can be verified. For RCT, check Titleist’s current product listing. Confirm the model, quantity and marking technology in the basket; a search result can lead to the ordinary version with a very similar name.

Check the exact model, generation and seller. Results can include alternatives; a search link does not confirm availability. Use the official supplier links for specialist products and services.
Follow the ball, screen and monitor suppliers’ care guidance. Do not improvise permanent-marker patterns or reflective stickers as though they are manufacturer-validated replacements. Replace damaged practice balls appropriately and keep a separate record when changing to another model. Correct compatibility and consistent practice conditions are more useful than choosing the most expensive box.
