Get the required finished length confirmed before comparing extension labour with a longer-club order. The complete fitted cost, grip condition and suitability of your existing shafts decide the value.

Measure the required change, rather than guessing from height
The useful starting point is a measured finished playing length for each club, not a request to “make them longer”. A golfer may need a different setup, lie, shaft weight or grip as well as extra length. Ask a fitter to compare an appropriate longer test club with the existing one and explain which problem the change is intended to solve.
The golf club length guide introduces the measurements. This decision is about paying for a finished, suitable set: the custom fitting service guide helps you prepare for that appointment. Bring the actual clubs because a previous alteration can make their current length different from the original catalogue specification.
A real workshop price and a real longer-club offer
JustGolfGrips lists shaft extensions at £15 per club using the existing grip. Six irons therefore start at £90 on that stated service basis, before any separately agreed work or transport. Grip reuse and the suitability of each shaft need the workshop’s assessment; the price is not approval to extend every damaged or previously modified club.
For a purchase comparison, Ram lists the right-handed EZ3 +1-inch iron package, SKU UK-MCRGI-0602, at £99.99. The named contents are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and pitching wedge, with a 4-hybrid. The description also says “7 irons”, which conflicts with those six named irons: confirm the packed contents. The page showed stock when checked, but we have not reserved a set or confirmed delivery to your address.
| Question | Existing-club extension | Longer-club purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Which clubs? | List every iron, wedge or wood individually | Use the exact package contents; do not count a hybrid as an iron |
| Final measurement | Specify the finished length, not just extension length | Ask how the advertised additional length relates to the model’s standard build |
| Grip and feel | Confirm reuse, new grip cost and final build assessment | Check fitted grip, shaft weight and the complete feel |
| Total bill | Extensions, necessary grips, checks and transport | Delivered set, fitting changes and net value recovered from old clubs |
Why £90 versus £99.99 does not settle it
Those numbers compare one published six-club service calculation with one different entry-level package. They are useful for showing how close a repair and purchase can look, but they do not establish equal quality, fit or playing performance. Keeping heads you already use successfully may be worth more to you than gaining an extra hybrid you do not need.
Equally, extending an inexpensive set that also needs six new grips can leave you spending more than expected. Ask for one combined quote. If the workshop quotes £90 extensions, £48 additional grips and £20 transport, the arithmetic is £158. The last two figures are illustrative inputs, not JustGolfGrips charges. Include only additions that actually appear on your quotation.
For a custom build, request every finished length
A longer stock package is one route. A Ram FX77 custom-fit order provides another through its build selectors, but the chosen club count, shaft and length must be priced together. The displayed starting amount does not verify that a particular longer configuration is available. Ask the seller for the written build and shipping timetable before ordering.
A professional should assess whether an extension is appropriate for the existing shaft and required change. Ask how the completed clubs will be checked for length, grip security and overall fit, and whether the lie needs assessment afterwards. This is a workshop purchase, not an instruction to glue in an arbitrary extension yourself. We have not inspected your shafts or approved a modification.
Choose the route with the fewest remaining compromises
Extend when a fitter supports the change, the current heads and shafts are worth keeping and the full quote is attractive. Order longer clubs when you need a broader change or cannot get a suitable finished result from the existing set. Whichever route you choose, test a representative club first where possible and check the completed measurements before accepting all the work.
