Compare the exact KING TEC and TEC-X generation in a fitting, keeping variable-length and ONE Length builds separate. Judge useful approach gaps and the complete UK set rather than which numbered iron travels farther.

Identify TEC, TEC-X and the generation first
The KING TEC manufacturer chart lists a standard 7-iron loft of 29.5°. The KING TEC-X European chart lists 27° and describes a hollow body with substantial internal tungsten weighting. The different specifications make a club-number distance contest a poor way to decide which set to buy.
Confirm that the listing refers to the intended KING TEC generation, rather than an older Forged TEC, a ONE Length version or another current KING family. These are different products or builds. A familiar name and a similar photograph are not enough to establish a like-for-like quotation.
| Choice | Why it needs its own check |
|---|---|
| TEC or TEC-X | Different head and loft specifications |
| Variable or ONE Length | Different complete set-building approach |
| New or older generation | Model names can be similar across releases |
| Stock or custom set | Local club count and handedness may differ |
| Full set or blend | Transition must be measured, not assumed |
Find the useful long-iron limit
Test the longest iron that might earn a place in your bag and the club immediately below it. Look for separate carry distances and a landing flight you can use. If both irons arrive in much the same area, adding the longer one provides little benefit regardless of the nominal loft.
Then compare the appropriate hybrid or fairway wood above the set. TEC-X’s stronger numbered-iron specification may change the club labels covering your familiar distances, but the bag still needs practical gaps. Decide the coverage first and the number stamped on the sole second.
Do not treat tungsten mass as a scoring result
Construction details explain a design approach. They cannot tell you how much better your off-centre shots will finish. Alternate ordinary strike groups in the fitting, note short misses as well as sideways spread, and keep your existing iron as a reference. Ask for a suitable complete build for each head.
A shaft or playing-length change may influence contact. Record those changes so the final recommendation is reproducible. If one head looks easier to aim, that preference can reasonably matter, but distinguish it from measured carry or dispersion.
Check the scoring end before accepting a stock package
Write out the pitching wedge, gap wedge and your next specialist wedge. Test the actual distances and partial shots you use most often. The TEC-X chart lists a 42° pitching wedge and 48° gap wedge, so make sure the offer contains the clubs needed for your transition rather than assuming every seven-club package is identical.
For a blend, have the fitter specify exactly where the heads change and any agreed loft or lie alterations. Mixing clubs because their names look related can leave an awkward overlap or gap. Our Cobra range guide supplies family context, while the iron-set comparison guide helps organise the broader decision.
Compare a UK build, not a foreign stock configuration
The European manufacturer page expressly tells buyers to check local set composition. Ask the UK seller for the exact clubs, shaft models, lengths, grips and handedness available. Do not carry over a US boxed-set assumption or a custom-only option as if it were guaranteed UK stock.
Add custom charges, delivery and any extra scoring club to the complete price. Choose the route that covers your intended shots in the tested build. A lower headline price is only useful if it buys a suitable set without immediate replacement work.
