Golf Simulator Projectors: Throw Ratio, Image Shape and Room Fit

A golf simulator projector should be chosen after the hitting position and screen area are planned. Start with the visible image width, shape and available lens position. Then check resolution, connections and the mounting requirements for the exact model. A bright projector or a short-throw label does not automatically fit every room, and digital image adjustment cannot replace a sound physical layout.

Define the visible screen area first

Use the actual viewable area rather than the outer frame or fabric dimensions. Decide whether the image will fill a wide, square or another shaped opening. Keep the screen supplier’s measurements with your room plan so the projector comparison uses the right target.

Consider whether the same setup will also show films or other content. That may involve another aspect ratio, but it should not compromise the golf layout. Identify the main use and ask the supplier how the exact projector handles the intended shapes before assuming every mode uses the same image area.

A defined reference: BenQ AK700ST

BenQ lists the AK700ST with 4K UHD output, a laser light source, 4,000 ANSI lumens, native 16:9 aspect ratio and a 0.69–0.83 throw-ratio range. These are manufacturer specifications, not a measurement of its image in your room.

Use throw ratio as an initial calculation

Throw ratio relates lens-to-screen distance to image width. As a simple illustration, a 3m-wide image multiplied by a ratio range of 0.69–0.83 gives approximately 2.07–2.49m of lens distance. This is a first optical calculation, not confirmation that the full golf installation fits.

Check the actual aspect ratio, zoom, image mode, lens reference point and mounting offset in the manufacturer’s calculator or guidance. Do not measure from the back of the projector housing and assume that is the lens distance. Confirm the proposed placement with the supplier before buying a mount or making a permanent ceiling installation.

Keep the player and ball path in the design

Place the projector only where the completed arrangement satisfies swing and ball-containment requirements. Include every player who will use the simulator and the clubs they intend to swing. A lens position that creates the right image may still be unsuitable for the room’s golf use.

Plan cables, access for maintenance and any protection required by the system design. Avoid improvised placement on furniture that can be struck or moved during use. If the position is uncertain, obtain a complete installation recommendation rather than selecting the projector independently and solving the room conflicts afterwards.

Check the signal and lighting as well as the headline resolution

Confirm the computer or device can run the chosen simulator software at the output you expect and connect to the projector appropriately. A 4K-capable projector does not guarantee that the source device will produce a smooth 4K simulation. Include the software’s actual requirements in the purchase plan.

Assess the room lighting and screen material with a demonstration or supplier advice when possible. A brightness figure has a defined measurement basis; it does not promise the same perceived image in every environment. Keep gaming, golf and general display settings distinct if they use different compromises.

Compare a complete installed option

Include the mount, cabling, required source device and installation work alongside the projector. Check what comes in the box and which accessories are optional. Avoid choosing purely from a diagonal-screen-size claim without the width and placement calculation.
