Choose a walking golf bag by how it carries your normal round’s load, rather than its empty weight alone. Start with a stand bag if you carry a full set and want to put the bag down between shots. Carry, reduced set or trolley: choose the job first
A stand bag is the useful starting category for golfers who carry and want legs that support the bag when it is set down. Check the straps, leg mechanism and club access together. A smaller bag may save space and weight, but confirm whether it accommodates the clubs and weather gear you actually take.

Two PING carry bags with different storage priorities
The standard Hoofer and Hoofer Monsoon provide a useful specification comparison. PING currently lists both at 5.5 lb with a five-way top and convertible straps. For the Monsoon buying option, confirm that the offer is the 231 Black/Grey model. Retailer descriptions may use “waterproof”; PING’s linked specification says water-repellent construction. Read both before assuming every opening or pocket has the same protection.

Compare the bag with a realistic load
Ask to compare it with your clubs, balls, water bottle and normal extra layer. Adjust the straps, lift the bag and take a short walk where the shop permits. Notice where the bag rests, whether a strap slips and whether your usual bottle and valuables pockets are reachable.
Try taking clubs out while the bag is standing and while it is in its normal carrying position. Include your largest grips. A divider layout that looks tidy when empty may feel different with the full set inside.
Check ownership costs and care
Confirm whether the rain hood and strap assembly are included, and ask about replacement parts and the return conditions before using the bag outdoors. Follow the maker’s cleaning and drying instructions; store damp gear separately while it dries rather than leaving it inside a closed pocket.
