The scoring end is closer than the 7-iron numbers suggest
The official Titleist T-Series chart lists T250’s standard 7-iron at 30.5° and T350’s at 29°. Both list a 43° pitching wedge and 48° additional wedge; T350 also lists a 53° option. These are useful starting facts when comparing the same club count. They are not a prediction of your carry distance or stopping power.
| Set question | What to write down |
|---|---|
| Longest included club | The longest iron that produces a distinct usable distance |
| Middle-iron flight | Carry, peak flight and landing result from ordinary strikes |
| Scoring transition | Pitching wedge and the next one or two wedges |
| Shaft build | Model, weight, flex, length and grip |
| Complete quote | Same useful clubs, including any extra wedge or hybrid |
Start with the least reliable approach club
If your present long irons finish at similar distances, make that the first question for the fitting. Ask to compare the longest sensible iron in each range and a suitable alternative above it. Buying an extra iron because a standard boxed set includes it is poor value if the club never earns a shot on the course.
If the scoring end is the problem instead, begin there. Compare a short iron and pitching wedge before spending most of the session on a 7-iron. A set should help you cover approach distances predictably, not simply move the familiar club number farther.
Give both heads a suitable build
The same shaft family can be a useful first comparison, but do not insist on an unsuitable shaft merely to make the labels match. Let the fitter explain any change in length, weight or lie, then save the final configuration. You are buying a complete set rather than an isolated head design.
Alternate short groups and keep your present iron as a reference. Inspect ordinary short strikes and side misses as well as the strongest contact. If one option feels easier to aim, record that preference; if it also improves measured dispersion, record the result separately. A preference can matter without being presented as universal performance evidence.
Consider a blend only where the gap works
A mixed set is worth discussing when one head helps at the long end and another suits your short approaches. Ask the fitter to test the two clubs around the change. Similar branding and a tidy progression of club numbers do not by themselves produce a sensible carry gap.
Get any proposed loft adjustments written on the quotation. They should be part of an agreed fitted build, not an assumption made after an online order. The Titleist range guide explains the wider family; our iron-set comparison guide helps you organise the bag decision.
UK price comparisons need the same useful clubs
Request two totals with identical intended coverage. A six-iron price and a seven-club price are not equivalent, and the cheapest advertised shaft may differ from the fitted one. Include delivery, extra wedges, grip changes and any fitting credit. Ask for the delivery estimate for that exact configuration.
Choose T250 or T350 according to the complete approach pattern and the build you can order. If the results are close, appearance, feel, budget and the practicality of obtaining the correct set can reasonably decide it. There is no requirement to choose a head because of a handicap label.
