Compare the current ball generation and your preferred putting markings separately. Tour Response and ERC Soft are not interchangeable simply because both offer alignment aids and use urethane-related cover terminology.

Compare the generation before the stripe
TaylorMade has introduced a 2026 Tour Response generation with a cast urethane cover and a microcoating finish. Tour Response Stripe adds a broad alignment presentation, with Clear and Mint among the named choices. That is the generation to identify when comparing a new release with a reduced older box. A familiar Tour Response name alone does not identify the construction you are buying.
Callaway’s 2025 ERC Soft Triple Track uses a hybrid cover with a urethane coating system. Those words should not be shortened to “the same urethane cover”: a coating and a cast cover describe different constructions. Triple Track refers to its printed alignment aid. Neither description, by itself, proves which ball will stop closer to your target.

Test the alignment aid on the putts you actually face
A wide band and three narrow lines can produce different visual preferences. Put each ball down behind a straight short putt, align it from behind, then move into your normal address position. Note whether the chosen line still looks convincing. If you repeatedly stand up to readjust one design, that interruption matters even when both balls roll well.
Repeat on a breaking putt where the starting line differs from the hole location. Give each design an equal number of attempts and alternate their order. Judge your starting line and pace separately: a ball that finishes close after an unintended push is not evidence that its markings improved your aim. Do not change your putter at the same time.
Use short-game shots to judge the ball, not just its markings
Try a landing spot on a practice green from the same clean lie with each ball. Include a running chip and the pitch you normally use over a bunker. Record which landing area and rollout you can repeat. Wet rough, a dirty wedge and different strike positions can overwhelm a small ball difference, so keep those conditions as consistent as practical.
If one ball requires an unfamiliar landing point, decide whether you want to learn that response or keep your current ball. A pleasant impact sound is a valid preference, but it is not a measured spin result. Our Tour Response guide and ERC Soft guide provide the individual-model context for this comparison.
Buy a trial quantity before a multi-box offer
Compare the delivered total per new ball for the exact generation, marking and quantity. Keep recycled, refinished and mixed-year lots outside that comparison. An older box can still be useful, but its discount should be assessed as that older product, without borrowing the latest release’s claims.
For a first order, favour a small quantity you can test over a larger order chosen only for free delivery. Check whether the shop can supply the same version again if you decide to commit. A colour you lose quickly against autumn leaves is a poor saving for your own course, however attractive it looks on a putting mat.

Choose Tour Response when its exact cover-and-marking package wins your short-game and aiming trial. Choose ERC Soft when its flight, response and Triple Track presentation are easier for you to repeat. When neither gives a clear practical advantage, delivered cost and dependable repeat supply are sensible deciding factors.
