SKB Double Golf Case: Can Two Sets Travel in One Case?

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The SKB Double ATA case is designed to accommodate two standard sets, but that does not mean every pair of loaded golf bags fits or that an airline will charge it as one ordinary golf item. Check physical fit, packed weight and the carrier’s definition before buying it to save baggage fees.

What SKB’s double format actually offers

SKB’s 2SKB-5020W has a broad interior intended for two standard sets or a staff-bag arrangement. Its specification table lists an empty product weight of 24.21 pounds. That is a meaningful part of the total load before either golfer’s clubs, bags or shoes are added.

Double-case decision sequence
Stage Measure or confirm Why it can change the decision
Physical fit Both intended sets with protection Two standard sets is not every two bags
Packed weight Complete closed case on a scale A heavy shell uses some of the allowance
Airline definition Two sets in one container One case may not equal one standard golf item
Ground transport Car opening and cargo space The broad hard case does not collapse
Trip logistics Both golfers share the same routing A single package links both sets’ travel plans

Try both actual sets together

Use the clubs and playing bags you intend to take, not two smaller showroom bags. Arrange heads, shafts, stands and handles without forcing contact. Put in the intended protection and close the case normally. Check that nothing moves into a pressure point when the case changes orientation.

The sales description’s longest-driver claim and the table’s interior length differ, so a maximum-length purchase needs clarification from SKB. We would not assume a diagonal arrangement solves it. Ask for the supported packing layout and demonstrate it with your equipment.

Our tour-bag guide explains why a large staff-style bag can change the packing problem. A double-width case may be useful for one bulky setup without being a practical choice for two similarly bulky bags.

Weigh before comparing fees

Add the empty case, both sets, both playing bags and every permitted extra. Do not compare the case’s shipping weight to the airline allowance; use the actual packed weight. Leave yourself room for scale differences and anything you might bring home.

If the package exceeds the carrier’s standard allowance, request the full applicable charge rather than assuming one overweight item is cheaper than two standard items. A second traveler’s unused baggage allowance should not be treated as automatically transferable into a heavier single package.

Ask about two sets in one container explicitly

For example, Delta’s golf policy describes one golf bag with one set as the standard golf item. That wording does not automatically approve two sets inside a double case. Send your operating airline the contents, packed dimensions and weight and ask for an answer that addresses that exact arrangement.

Check all flight segments and the return trip. Separate tickets, partner-operated flights or different routes can change the practical answer. A case manufacturer’s travel claim does not set airline fees or establish coverage if baggage is delayed or damaged.

Consider the shared-package tradeoff

One case can simplify counting and storing equipment, but both sets then travel together. If one golfer changes flights or leaves early, decide how the clubs will move. Also consider whether either traveler can manage the packed case when the other person is unavailable.

Try loading it through your vehicle’s opening. Reserve a suitable rental car based on the actual case measurements, not only the number of passenger seats. At the destination, the rigid case still needs storage after both golf bags are removed.

When separate cases are preferable

Separate cases may be easier when the bags are large, the travelers have different schedules or the combined weight creates an unfavorable airline quote. Our hard-case guide and bag-type guide help compare the underlying equipment choices.

Buy the double case when the fit trial and written travel plan both support it. The accessory links below are useful for weighing and identifying the package; they do not create a two-set baggage allowance.
