Try Scottsdale DS72 and Craz-E for their different head pictures and offsets, then compare pace in suitable builds. Keep standard Craz-E separate from CB and confirm the full Scottsdale model name on any UK offer.

These Scottsdale mallets offer different aiming pictures

PING lists the Scottsdale DS72 as a mid-mallet with a ball-width cavity and full-shaft offset. The Scottsdale Craz-E is a larger mallet with multiple alignment cues and half-shaft offset. Both use a one-piece PEBAX insert, so begin by comparing how the head and offset look behind your normal ball.

The table describes manufacturer standard configurations, not a fitting recommendation or a guarantee of UK stock. Craz-E CB is a separate longer-build option and should not be silently substituted into this comparison.

Test aim without forcing a new posture

Set each putter behind the ball and check whether you can settle comfortably into the intended start line. A fitter can help distinguish a head-picture preference from a length or lie mismatch. If you must change posture simply to make the demonstrator look right, investigate the build before deciding the shape is wrong for you.

Use your current putter as a reference. The DS72’s compact picture may appeal to one golfer, while Craz-E’s additional cues may help another organise the setup. Neither preference is universal, and the number of alignment lines is not a measure of putting quality.

Compare the response at longer distances

Alternate groups using the same ball and target area. Include several longer putts and, if available, both uphill and downhill tasks. Record the size of ordinary distance errors rather than counting only holed putts. A shared insert material does not make the complete head and weight feel identical.

Keep sound and feel preferences as separate notes. You may reasonably prefer one, but do not turn that preference into an unsupported claim about the other model’s accuracy. Give each putter a little familiarisation before making the final comparison.

Do not confuse Scottsdale with another DS72 generation

PING has used related model names across different ranges. Make sure the offered club is the Scottsdale DS72 described here, rather than an earlier DS72 or a centre-shaft DS72 C. Ask for the full product identity and actual photographs when a listing is abbreviated.

Likewise, distinguish standard Craz-E from Craz-E CB. The grip and length can change the intended setup, so a lower price for a different version is not automatically an equivalent offer. Our PING putter guide provides wider model context.

Turn the preferred trial into a written order

Record model, hand, finished length, lie, loft, shaft and grip. Ask which specifications can be supplied in the UK and whether the final club will match the demonstrator. Add fitting costs or credits and delivery to the complete comparison.

The PING range guide explains the broader fitting approach. If considering another shape, the Scottsdale Anser comparison is a different buying decision rather than a replacement for this DS72-versus-Craz-E trial.

Choose the head that gives you the most comfortable repeatable aim and pace response in the right build. If the trial is inconclusive, repeat it rather than choosing by a small head-weight difference alone. Search results can mix generations and counterbalanced versions, so verify the complete name and specification.
