Take G440 K and Qi4D Max to a fitting as two stability-focused candidates. Match the trial conditions first, then optimise each complete build and compare the resulting shot pattern against your current driver.

Why these two belong in the same fitting
PING’s G440 K announcement centres on stability and adjustable weighting. TaylorMade’s Qi4D Max information also describes a stability-focused head, with two Trajectory Adjustment System weights. This makes them sensible comparison candidates when you want a forgiving driver and still need to tune the complete build. It does not establish which is straighter for your swing.
Keep the full model names on the booking. Qi4D Max Lite is a different build route, while the PING family also includes other heads and HL configurations. A test of whichever demonstrator happens to be available may answer a different question from the one you intended.
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Finished playing length | A length difference can alter strike consistency |
| Exact shaft and grip | Model, weight and grip build affect the complete feel |
| Loft and hosel setting | The number printed on the head does not describe every setting |
| Weight configuration | Keep a record of the arrangement that produced the preferred result |
| Useful carry and misses | Assess the whole landing pattern, not a single longest shot |
Run two passes, with different questions
First ask the fitter for two suitable builds with broadly comparable playing lengths and shafts. Hit short alternating groups to learn which address shape, sound and strike pattern you prefer. Keep your current driver in the rotation: the purchase must improve on something you actually use, not merely beat the other new club.
Next allow each driver to be fitted independently. The best PING build need not use a shaft with the same name or quoted flex as the best TaylorMade. This second pass answers the buying question. Save the final specifications so a subsequent online comparison refers to the same complete club.
Separate stability from directional correction
A forgiving head still needs an appropriate delivery and fit. Tell the fitter whether the expensive miss is a block, a turning ball or a short strike; show ordinary swings rather than trying to impress the monitor. A setting that improves one miss may make another less comfortable. Your goal is a usable pattern around the intended target.
Consider the actual courses you play. A little extra carry may clear a familiar hazard, whereas extra rollout may bring a ditch into play. Look at measured carry separately from any simulated ground conditions. Ask to see the shorter shots as well as the best ones before choosing the final setting.
Compare two written UK quotations
Request the complete head, shaft, finished length, grip and adjustment setup in writing. Add fitting charges, any credited fitting fee, custom upcharges and delivery. Ask where after-sales work takes place and whether the exact demonstrator specification can be supplied. An inexpensive stock shaft is not an equivalent offer if your preferred result came from an upgraded build.
Our driver fitting and selection guide explains the wider decision. Use the PING model guide and TaylorMade model guide to keep family names separate when browsing.
Choose the result you can repeat
If neither club changes your useful tee-shot pattern, keeping your present driver remains a valid result. If one does, judge whether the improvement is worth its complete price to you. Avoid turning manufacturer stability language into a universal ranking: the fitting is where you find out how each build behaves with your ordinary contact.
