L.A.B. DF3 vs DF3i: UK Buying and Fitting Checks

Choose between DF3 and DF3i by testing pace with a suitable length and lie. DF3i’s stainless-steel insert is a different feel and response option; it is not an automatic upgrade over a DF3 you already putt well with.

DF3i changes the face response

L.A.B. describes the DF3 head as milled from 6061 aluminium. The DF3i adds a stainless-steel insert, which the manufacturer positions as faster and firmer at impact. That is the reason to trial the two face versions; it is not evidence that the inserted version will improve your putting.

If you already like your DF3’s aiming picture, the important question is whether the different response helps you control pace. If you have never used the head, establish a suitable length and lie before treating the face as the deciding factor. A comfortable build matters more than choosing the newest version.

Keep the DF3 face comparison clean
Variable What to do
Length and lie Use suitable matching specifications where possible
Grip and shaft Record any differences between demonstrators
Ball Use the same model throughout
Short putts Compare comfortable aim and start direction
Long putts Compare distance control and the size of ordinary errors

Test pace before choosing a firmer feel

Start with a few familiar short putts, then move to longer distances in both directions on the same practice area. Alternate the putters rather than completing every putt with one first. Keep the ball consistent and give yourself time to adapt to the response.

Record the finishing distance from the intended area, not only whether a putt happened to drop. A slightly different sound can make the ball seem faster even when the outcome is similar. Preference still matters, but separate sound and feel from the actual length of the putt.

Use the fitting specification as the buying boundary

The stock pages show a 69° lie selection, but availability is not a fitting recommendation. Follow L.A.B.’s official fitting guidance or use a suitable local fitting route. If your recommended build differs from the stock offer, resolve that difference before ordering rather than planning an unapproved alteration afterwards.

Ask the fitter whether the two trial putters use the same shaft, grip and alignment option. If they differ, a preferred result may reflect the complete configuration. Save the exact specification so an attractive retailer offer can be compared against the club you actually liked.

An upgrade from DF3 needs a repeatable benefit

Keep your existing putter in the session and decide what you want to change. If the only difference is a more appealing impact sensation, decide how much that preference is worth to you. There is no need to replace a putter that already gives you dependable pace because a new face option exists.

If you struggle with pace on a particular green speed, try to compare under relevant conditions. One shop mat cannot reproduce every course. A sensible trial should reveal whether the change feels manageable, while several practice sessions can help confirm a purchase within the seller’s permitted trial arrangements.

UK ordering and second-hand checks

Confirm seller, dispatch location, exact build, complete delivered price and the applicable return arrangement. Manufacturer US dollar prices and general lead times do not establish a UK total or delivery commitment. Ask whether an offered stock specification is genuinely available in your hand.

For used clubs, request the original build and any history of grip, shaft or length changes. Do not assume a modified putter retains the original specification. Our L.A.B. buying guide and lie-angle balance guide explain those broader checks.

Search results may mix DF3 and DF3i or include headcovers. Check the actual face version, length, lie and complete item before paying.
