A removable insole lets you investigate a different insert arrangement, but does not establish usable depth or suitability for your own orthotic. Start with exact UK shoe articles whose footbeds are documented, then try both shoes with the insert and socks you intend to wear.

Two documented ECCO models to investigate
The ECCO BIOM C5 article 13261452012 has a removable, washable insole and BOA closure. The manufacturer describes removing the insole as a way of gaining extra room. The BIOM H5 article 13806461475 also has a removable, washable Ortholite insole, with a different knit-sock upper and ECCO-TEX construction. These exact examples provide a starting shortlist, not a promise that every ECCO shoe shares their fit.
Neither checked specification provides a measured internal depth that guarantees room for your particular insert. An insole being removable also does not tell us how its replacement will position your heel or change pressure across the instep. That needs a fitting trial, and prescribed orthotics should be used according to the clinician’s guidance.
| Exact article | Documented feature | Unresolved until fitting |

| BIOM C5 13261452012 | Removable washable insole; BOA closure | Heel position and instep room with your insert |

Bring the complete insert arrangement
Take the existing insert, your usual playing socks and a well-fitting shoe if available. Tell the fitter whether the insert is intended to replace the supplied footbed or be used in another prescribed arrangement. Do not stack two full insoles by default: the resulting fit can be quite different from the shoe tried in its standard configuration.
Keep the original footbed intact while establishing fit. Do not cut, glue or force an insert into a new pair during a returnable trial. A full-length insert, a shorter orthotic and a simple heel piece create different space requirements. Ask for appropriate fitting advice when your existing arrangement is prescribed or when you are unsure how it should sit.
Check depth separately from width
After the approved insert is positioned, check whether the heel remains properly seated and the closure works without excessive pressure. Look for curling edges or an insert that rocks inside the shoe. Walk and stand for a reasonable indoor trial, then assess both feet rather than judging only the more comfortable one.
A wider shoe is not automatically deeper, and a longer size is not a reliable way to solve an instep problem. Compare another cut when necessary. Our wide-feet golf-shoe guide covers verified width choices; this article addresses the different question of what happens inside the shoe when the footbed changes.
Retest golf movements and the weather setup
Wear the trouser hem and sock thickness you expect on the course. Check comfortable address, a gentle rehearsal turn, stepping and bending. A fit that seems acceptable while seated can feel different when your weight moves. Stop if there is discomfort rather than assuming an expensive shoe must be right after a break-in period.
Keep outsole and waterproof choices separate from insert fit. The C5 and H5 examples have different constructions, but neither a waterproof membrane nor a premium closure establishes compatibility with your insert. The ECCO model guide helps identify the exact article so a retailer does not substitute a similar-looking variant.
Understand the trial and return route
ECCO’s published UK return policy specifies a 30-day return window from delivery, original tags and shoebox, and items that have not been worn, altered or washed. Read the full conditions and follow the seller’s process. These are the retailer’s terms; we have not approved a particular return or established that outdoor testing would be accepted.
Arrange the fitting before removing tags or taking the shoes onto grass. If buying from another retailer, use its own conditions. Record the article number, size and any width designation with your fit notes, because a successful trial in one style should not be generalised to the entire brand.
Buy the fit you can demonstrate
Choose only when the intended insert sits correctly and both shoes remain comfortable in the complete arrangement. Ask the relevant clinician or fitter about unresolved orthotic questions. We do not claim pain relief, injury prevention or a medical outcome from either model. Shopping searches below identify model families; match the exact article and selected size before ordering.
