For mild wet golf, compare FootJoy RainGrip Pair with MacWet Mesh Short Cuff. Choose a Climatec variant only when you also want its warmer backing, and judge both gloves on each hand around a club.

Use RainGrip Pair versus MacWet Mesh Short Cuff as the fair starting point
The FootJoy RainGrip Pair, style 66083E supplies both hands, with autosuede knit palms and quick-drying material on the backs of the fingers. Make sure a shop’s RainGrip listing is for the pair you intend to buy; a similar name does not always identify the same package.
For a close comparison in mild rain, start with MacWet Mesh Short Cuff. MacWet’s own guidance distinguishes its breathable Mesh back from the fleece-lined, windproof Climatec back. Both use Aquatec palms. MacWet explicitly says its gloves are not waterproof: their purpose is grip in wet conditions, rather than keeping all water away from your hands.
| Your need | Useful starting shortlist | Check in the fitting |
|---|---|---|
| Mild wet round | RainGrip Pair or Mesh Short Cuff | Palm contact and finger length |
| More coverage at the wrist | MacWet long-cuff variant | Overlap with jacket sleeve |
| Cool wind as well as rain | Climatec variant | Extra backing bulk during grip |
| Dry warm hands between shots | Separate suitable over-glove or mitt | Remove it before using the playing grip |
Fit both hands around a club
Rain gloves are unusual for golfers who normally wear one glove, so assess the lower hand as carefully as the upper one. Hold your own usual grip or an equivalent shop club. Check whether extra material gathers under the fingers, whether the thumb seam pulls and whether you can close the fastening without stretching the glove awkwardly.
MacWet uses a palm-width measurement in centimetres as its size starting point. Do not convert your FootJoy letter size directly into a MacWet number. Measure as the brand instructs and use the result to try the closest appropriate options. A glove should feel close without restricting finger movement; choosing it loose “for winter socks” logic does not translate to a hand gripping a club.
Decide on cuff and warmth without changing the question
Try the short cuff under your actual waterproof sleeve, especially if you wear a GPS watch. A closure that catches the jacket or presses against the watch can become irritating during repeated swings. A long cuff is worth examining when sleeve overlap is the problem; it does not turn a wet-grip glove into a sealed waterproof gauntlet.
Climatec introduces extra backing warmth, so compare it only when that is useful for your rounds. For a mild rainy day, more insulation can be an unnecessary compromise. If your main problem is cold hands while waiting between shots, read our winter golf-glove guide alongside this wet-grip comparison.
Drying is part of the weekly routine
MacWet specifies gentle washing with mild detergent up to 40°C, reshaping while damp and natural drying, without tumble drying or direct heat. Follow the care instructions supplied with your own gloves if they differ. Do not automatically apply that washing programme to RainGrip: use FootJoy’s label or ask its support team for the exact style’s instructions.
After a round, take gloves out of the bag so you can inspect and dry them according to their instructions. Keep a separate clean bag compartment for the next round’s dry spare pair. Our rain-glove guide covers the wider wet-weather kit; this choice is specifically about fit, backing fabric and cuff arrangement.
Compare pair prices and choose a first trial
Put the actual pair quantity, size, cuff, colour, delivery charge and return conditions on one order comparison. Do not compare a single glove’s price with a pair or assume an unavailable colour proves the whole model is unavailable. Start with one correctly fitted pair before stocking up for the winter.

Choose RainGrip or Mesh Short Cuff according to the better two-hand fit. Move to Climatec when extra backing warmth is part of the requirement. The right choice should make your normal grip straightforward; it should not require a stronger squeeze to compensate for loose fabric or an unsuitable size.
