Callaway Apex Ai150 vs Ai200: Comparing Like-for-Like US Sets

Compare Apex Ai150 and Ai200 with the same club count and an appropriate shaft before judging value. Ai150 has slightly weaker published lofts and less offset in the reference 7-iron; neither those specifications nor the higher price establish which set will produce better approach shots for you.

The published numbers are a starting point

Callaway’s US Ai150 and Ai200 charts show why a same-number comparison needs context.

Apex US reference specifications
Specification Ai150 Ai200
7-iron loft 31 degrees 30 degrees
7-iron standard length 37 inches 37 inches
7-iron offset 2.4mm 3.1mm
PW / AW loft 44 /49 degrees 43 /48 degrees

Both are forged hollow-body designs. The chart does not tell us how your impact pattern will respond to the shape or which flight will suit your course. Treat the specifications as a way to organize a fair test, not as a scorecard awarding points for the smallest offset.

Normalize the demonstration clubs

Ask the fitter to start with comparable shaft models, flexes, grips and finished lengths. If the two heads need different builds to work well for you, compare those optimized builds afterward and keep their full specifications on the result sheet.

Hit alternating groups and retain ordinary mishits. Note front-to-back variation as well as left-to-right spread. An iron that produces one impressive carry number but an unpredictable normal range is difficult to choose confidently on an approach.

Use the same ball throughout the test. Ask whether any launch-monitor setting is normalizing conditions, and keep it consistent. Our 7-iron loft guide explains why a stronger loft can affect a distance comparison without proving a superior fit.

Test the clubs that decide the purchase

The middle iron is useful for initial fitting, but request the longest iron you plan to carry and a short iron before ordering the set. You need to know whether the long end launches usefully and whether the short end provides distances you can plan around.

If one model feels more comfortable at address, explain why. Is the issue the top line, the amount of face visible, or how the sole sits? Those observations can guide fitting. They are more useful than assuming that a compact appearance is automatically reserved for a particular handicap.

Bring your current wedges. The published wedge lofts differ between these families, so replacing the irons while keeping the same wedge labels can alter the transition. Use the wedge gapping guide to check actual full and partial shots.

Compare the same purchase

Ask each US retailer to quote the identical club list. A price for six clubs is not directly comparable with a seven-club set, and an individual-iron starting price is not a package price. State whether the approach wedge is included and whether the longest iron will be used.

List shaft and grip upgrades separately, then add fitting, shipping and applicable tax. If a trade-in is involved, retain both the new purchase price and the confirmed credit so the discount remains understandable. Do not let a provisional trade-in estimate determine the decision.

Before paying, check which component controls delivery timing and what return terms apply to customization. Keep a copy of the specification sheet and inspect the delivered club list against it.

When each earns a place

Ai150 earns consideration when its shape and complete build produce the approach pattern you want. Ai200 earns consideration when its configuration gives you a more useful mix of launch, distance and ordinary misses. If the practical results are similar, comfort, total cost and the quality of fitting support can settle the decision.
