Tour V7 Shift is worth considering for its OLED display, physical slope switch and compatible LINK functions. Try both in your hand: the smaller unit is easier to carry only if you can also aim and operate it comfortably.

Test grip and aiming, not pocket size alone
Hold the unit as you would during a round and reach the controls without moving the lens away from the target. Try it with your normal eyewear and adjust the eyepiece. A smaller body may suit one hand comfortably and feel less secure in another.
Neither model should be assumed to provide optical image stabilization merely because it helps identify the flag. If holding a target steadily is your main difficulty, ask specifically about stabilization rather than treating compactness or a vibration as the same solution.
Choose the power routine you prefer
A1’s USB-C charging can fit an existing habit of charging devices before golf. Check the required charging conditions and make the rangefinder part of the pre-round equipment check. An internal battery does not remove the need to monitor its condition.
V7’s replaceable CR2 gives a different recovery option if power runs low. Carry the correct approved spare and store it according to the battery instructions. Do not substitute a similarly shaped rechargeable cell without manufacturer approval.
Make slope operation obvious to you
A1 selects slope through its mode control, while V7 offers a switch. Practice entering the distance-only setting and recognizing the display before a competition. Follow the event’s device rules rather than relying on a retailer’s general tournament label.

Do you have a genuine use for LINK?
V7’s connected club-data function requires a compatible assessment and setup. A1 does not support LINK or Bluetooth. If you do not intend to obtain and maintain the relevant profile, leave that feature out of the value comparison.
Conversely, if you already use a supported Foresight assessment and want the club information in the viewfinder, verify V7’s current connection workflow before purchase. Avoid assuming a feature advertised elsewhere in the brand’s lineup is shared by the compact model.
Check carrying and attachment together
Try the supplied case and the place where you intend to keep it. For A1, account for the magnetic skin when assessing size and access. Check that the mounting arrangement is secure and remember to retrieve the device from a rented cart.
