Blast’s supported-mode guide identifies Gen 3 by a 12-digit serial number whose second digit in the top row is 5 or higher. The identifier is on the sensor or in the app’s My Sensor area. Use the manufacturer’s method if a used listing does not clearly state the generation.
Ask the seller for confirmation privately rather than posting device information publicly. A newer attachment or replacement box is not evidence that the sensor inside is Gen 3. If Short Game or Bunker is your reason to buy, make successful access to that mode part of your pre-purchase check.
What the new modes change about the buying decision
A golfer who only wants putting feedback has a different requirement from someone buying specifically to study short shots. Do not replace working equipment solely because a new mode exists. Write down the practice task, how often you will use it and which feedback you intend to act on.
For bunker practice, also confirm that the location permits the device and that the attachment is correctly fitted. Begin with the manufacturer’s guidance for the selected mode rather than expecting a full-swing session setting to describe every kind of short shot equally well.
The sensor measures club behavior, not a complete flight
The current Golf product page describes a grip-mounted sensor and feedback such as speed and tempo. It is not a replacement for every measurement from a ball-tracking launch monitor. A useful number should be connected to the shot task rather than treated as a complete diagnosis.
