The most useful design is one you can find and handle promptly. A large decorative marker can be easy to see but feel awkward to carry; a very small one may be difficult to retrieve. Compare the actual dimensions rather than a photograph alone.

Read the exact listing to confirm the marker is included. A replacement marker, a complete tool and a cap are different purchases, even if the search uses similar words.
What to inspect or try
- Retrieve the marker with your usual glove or hand position.
- Check that it sits properly on its holder and can be returned without fumbling.
- Confirm the shape, thickness and finish do not snag the pocket or brim.
- Ask about replacement-marker compatibility instead of assuming any metal disc will fit.
- For a gift or logo order, check the required quantity, artwork and delivery terms.

Use it as a ball-position marker
R&A Rule 14.1 requires the spot to be marked before lifting a ball that must be replaced on that spot. Put a ball-marker right behind or next to the ball, then replace the ball on its original spot and remove the marker before the stroke.
If your marker interferes with someone else’s play, follow the appropriate procedure for moving and returning it; keep track of the original position. The magnet plays no role once the marker is placed on the putting surface.
Care and buying value
Keep soil and grit off the marker and holder, dry them after wet use and inspect any peeling decoration or damaged edges. Check the manufacturer’s care guidance for your actual product. Replacement availability matters if losing a custom marker would make the holder inconvenient.
Compare the delivered cost of the complete arrangement you want. A personalised disc can be a pleasant gift, but it is not necessary for marking a ball correctly. A simple visible marker may meet the need if you already have a convenient pocket routine.
