Cobra KING MAX vs BAFFLER: Iron Set or Hybrid-Iron Route?

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

BAFFLER is the more explicit hybrid-to-iron route: its stock set starts with two hybrids and changes head style through the irons. KING MAX offers a conventional iron-set route. Compare the difficult long-club slots first, then include any missing wedges in the total price.

These are different set compositions

The BAFFLER specification lists a stock set of 4H, 5H and 6-PW. Its 6 and 7 are hybrid-irons, 8 and 9 are hollow irons, and the pitching wedge is a cavity-back design. The gap and sand wedges are separate custom purchases.

KING MAX lists iron-set configurations and individual irons. This means that two similarly sized purchases can cover different tasks. Compare the actual club list instead of treating seven included clubs as equivalent coverage.

Begin where your current set stops working

Identify the longest club you can hit with a reasonably predictable carry. If the next two irons mostly fly the same distance, a package containing more long irons may not add much. Try the BAFFLER hybrids against the relevant KING MAX irons and any hybrid already in your bag.

Give the clubs the same target distance and a realistic lie. A hybrid that works from a tee may still need evaluation from fairway or light rough. Conversely, do not reject a larger head because it looks unfamiliar before seeing whether it helps with the shot you actually need.

The iron versus hybrid guide explains the broader formats. Here the important test is the named BAFFLER build against the KING MAX configuration your shop can supply.

Test the BAFFLER transitions

Because head styles change through the set, ask to hit clubs on either side of the transitions. Check that the hybrid and hybrid-iron carry distances separate usefully, then do the same where the design changes to a hollow iron. Consistent numbering is not evidence of consistent gaps for your swing.

Note whether the larger shapes affect your setup or confidence in a helpful way. If one club repeatedly changes your ball position or tempo, discuss that with the fitter before deciding that its longest shot represents the whole set.

Account for the short game

BAFFLER’s stock pitching wedge does not mean the box contains its separate gap and sand wedges. If you own suitable wedges, test the transition rather than buying replacements automatically. If you do not, add them to the cost before comparing the packages.

Use the wedge gapping guide to plan full and partial shots. A wedge with an appropriate loft still needs a useful sole and a comfortable build for the lies you face. Avoid spending the remaining budget simply to match the logo.

Specify the build and compare totals

BAFFLER’s standard listing uses graphite, while steel is described as custom only. KING MAX lists steel and graphite options. Try suitable complete builds without choosing a material solely from an age category or assuming that one flex label means the same feel across different shafts.

Ask a US supplier to itemize the precise clubs, shaft, grip, any fitting charge, shipping and tax. Confirm availability for your handedness and chosen components. Choose the route that fills the difficult slots and connects to your wedges; keep useful existing clubs when they already do those jobs.
