Try GTS4 when a fitting identifies excessive driver spin as a real problem; compare it directly with a well-configured GTS3. GTS4 is a 460cc model in this generation, so assumptions based on a previous smaller “4” head are unreliable. The purchase decision should balance carry, useful flight and mishit performance, not reward the lowest spin number on a screen.

Table of Contents
The current GTS4 is not the old head with a new label
Titleist’s GTS4 page lists a 460cc head and positions it for greater spin reduction. It shares the expanded track, weighting and hosel adjustment approach with GTS3. The listed GTS4 head lofts are 8°, 9° and 10°; check the exact handedness and build in the US order configuration.
Those details establish which product to arrange for a trial. They do not tell you to buy the lowest loft, nor do they establish that a larger head will produce your preferred sound or appearance. Try the actual head at address before committing to an order.
| Question | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Is the spin problem repeatable? | Several normal strikes, with launch and contact considered together |
| Does the lower-spin result retain carry? | Useful carry and the short end of the group |
| What happens on the ordinary miss? | Contact location and the resulting flight, not only centered shots |
| Can you order the tested club? | Head loft, shaft, length and recorded settings |
Diagnose the result before selecting the label
Tell the fitter what “too much spin” means on the course. A ball that climbs into the wind, a short carry result and a high launch-monitor spin reading are observations to investigate; they are not interchangeable diagnoses. The fitter needs to see strike, delivery and ball flight together.
Keep your usual ball in the comparison. Changing the ball while testing the head creates another explanation for the result. Also separate carry from calculated rollout: a low-spin shot that looks attractive on a simulated firm fairway may not be the shot you need to clear a real hazard.
Give GTS3 a fair configuration first
The point of comparing with GTS3 is to find out whether the more spin-focused head adds something useful after ordinary fitting work has been done. A poorly selected shaft or an unhelpful loft setting is not a fair representative of the alternative.
Begin with comparable suitable components, then let the fitter optimize each complete club. Keep notes of the changes. This gives you both a controlled comparison and a realistic final-build comparison. Our driver-length guide can help you distinguish the installed club length from the shaft description on a sales page.
Include the shots you do not choose
It is tempting to compare the best five shots from each head. Also inspect the ordinary low-face, heel and toe strikes that occur during your normal swing. Ask which club leaves the more useful miss and whether the difference is consistent enough to matter.
If GTS4 only looks better after excluding several weak shots, that is part of its fitting result for you. Conversely, if its whole pattern improves, there is no need to reject it because you do not fit a stereotype of a low-spin-driver player. A handicap category alone does not settle the choice.
Buy the measured build, not an approximation
Ask for the complete configuration and a dated US quote. Record the physical head loft, hosel position, weight settings, shaft model and flex, playing length and grip. Confirm whether a stock club matches the tested setup or requires custom work.
Read our Titleist club guide for the broader range. If you make a change, retain the fitting report and check the delivered specifications before taking the club into play. A slightly cheaper listing is not equivalent if it changes the component that made the trial work.

Choose GTS4 when it produces a more useful set of drives, including the misses, and the complete purchase makes sense. Choose GTS3 when it gives you the better balance. The model number is a way to organize the trial, not a ranking of golfers.
