Fairway Woods Under £150 in the UK: New Clubs Worth Comparing

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

MacGregor MacTec X stock fairways and Ram FX assembled graphite-shaft fairways are two routes to investigate below a £150 product budget. Their checked listings include different loft options, so start with the shot you need rather than choosing the cheapest three-wood.

A useful fairway wood should fill a distance or trajectory gap in your bag. A low price alone does not make a club useful from the lies you normally face.

Buy the complete club, not a matching head-only page

The MacTec X stock listing and Ram FX assembled listing both describe complete clubs with a headcover. Each brand also has other build routes, so check the basket carefully if a search result leads you to a similarly named page.

Confirm the shaft, flex, playing length and handedness. A head-only product requires the remaining components and assembly; a custom-build starting figure can change with the options selected. Do not assume the lowest number on a category page is the price of the complete specification you need.

Choose loft around the job

Decide whether the club will be used mainly from a tee, from the fairway on longer holes, or to replace a difficult long iron. Then trial the relevant lofts. A three-wood bought for occasional maximum distance may be less useful than a higher-lofted option you can launch consistently from the ground.

The two checked five-wood listings are not the same loft: MacTec X lists 19° while Ram FX lists 18°. A number on the sole is therefore not a complete specification. Compare the actual club and the carry it produces, including the gap to your next shorter club.

Use the lies you expect to play

If fairway shots are the main purpose, include shots from turf or a representative practice surface rather than testing only from a tee. Ask a fitter to help interpret launch and landing if the flight is too low for the intended shot. Avoid choosing the longest result while ignoring the less successful strikes.

Keep your current hybrid or long iron in the comparison. Write down which club produces a repeatable distance and which leaves an awkward overlap. The aim is to add a useful option, not simply another club with a different name.

Separate a fairway purchase from a mini driver

Our mini driver guide explains the different role of a compact driver. A club bought primarily for tee shots should not automatically displace the fairway wood you rely on from the ground. Make the role explicit before spending the budget.

The Callaway club range guide is useful background if you also compare another manufacturer’s fairway family. Keep the same loft, shaft and intended shot in view when moving between brands. A retailer’s clearance three-wood in an unsuitable flex is not a like-for-like alternative just because it costs less.

Check the delivered order and exact availability

Enter your postcode and verify delivery, selected configuration and current stock. The Ram page includes a generic dollar-denominated shipping badge, which is not a verified UK delivery quote. Use the actual order total rather than translating that badge into an assumed free-shipping threshold.

Start with MacTec X if its higher-lofted options are central to the gap you want to fill. Compare Ram FX if the right-handed 15° or 18° configuration matches the fitting and leaves useful room in the budget. Both still need an actual trial or fitting decision; this research does not establish that either is longer, easier to hit or more forgiving for every golfer.
