Clicgear 4.0 vs Rovic RV1S: Fixed or Swivelling Front Wheel?

Compare an identified Clicgear 4.0 with the original Rovic RV1S through a loaded steering and folding demonstration. Their front-wheel layouts differ, but a used or clearance purchase also depends on condition, exact accessory fit and available UK spares.

Keep the older model names intact

This comparison concerns an identified Clicgear 4.0 and the original Rovic RV1S. The original RV1S manufacturer page explicitly describes its 2015 introduction and swivelling front wheel. Current RV1S 2.0 and Clicgear 4.5 listings are separate generations. A seller must identify which version is actually in the box before you compare accessories or dimensions.

The named Clicgear 4.0 technical listing gives a folded reference of 13 by 15 by 24 inches, approximately 33 by 38 by 61cm. That is a useful boot-planning reference, not a verified dimension for every loaded or accessorised trolley. Obtain the corresponding measured folded dimensions of the actual original RV1S offered; do not substitute a newer model’s figure.

Try the steering movement with your own bag

The practical choice is a fixed front-wheel layout on the 4.0 versus the RV1S swivel arrangement. In a suitable demonstration area, fit your usual bag and make a slow turn around a marker. Then follow a straight path. Notice whether the steering movement feels natural and whether you keep making corrections with your wrists.

A swivel can make a tight change of direction more convenient, but that observation does not establish superior stability on slopes. Ask the demonstrator to explain the exact front-wheel control and lock on the RV1S offered. Practise only the operation permitted by its manual. For the Clicgear, distinguish tracking adjustment from a wheel that swivels freely during normal travel.

Fold You can release, fold and lock it correctly
Parking Brake holds in the approved demonstration
Bag support Base and upper saddle secure your bag
Spares Named part and UK supply route confirmed

A compact fold still needs a manageable routine

Perform the fold yourself after watching the correct sequence. Check where your hands go and whether a release is awkward to reach. Then lift the trolley into your car. Allow room for dirty wheels and the cover you intend to use, rather than planning to an empty boot’s theoretical volume.

A used trolley that folds stiffly may need adjustment or repair; do not accept “they all do that” as a diagnosis. Inspect hinges, catches, wheel attachment and the bag straps for damage. Ask whether a missing component can be supplied before agreeing to the purchase. An attractive used price changes quickly if the part needed to secure the frame is unavailable.

Shared accessory branding does not establish universal fit

Choose holders after establishing the exact trolley. As a concrete example, Clicgear’s steering-knob compatibility page includes the 4.0 while explicitly excluding the 4.5. That is why a general “fits Clicgear” seller description is insufficient. Check the particular accessory, its mounting location and whether it obstructs folding.

Test the bag as well. A stand-bag mechanism can sit awkwardly against a lower support even when the straps reach. Place the clubs you normally carry inside, close the restraints as instructed and check that the bag does not rotate during the demonstration. Storage pockets should remain accessible without loosening the bag.

Confirm UK spares before paying for older stock

The manufacturer’s distributor directory names JS International in Watford for UK support. Use the appropriate retailer or distributor route to identify a part and the applicable warranty for your purchase. An American warranty displayed beside a specification is not your UK warranty, and this guide does not promise current new-stock availability for either older model.

Choose the RV1S if the swivel operation demonstrably suits your steering routine; choose the 4.0 if its handling and fold suit you better. Condition, complete fittings and support can outweigh that layout preference. Our Clicgear guide and Rovic guide cover the wider families without changing these older-model checks.
