Compare ZXi5 and ZXi7 within the same generation first. For the September 2026 update, confirm the new head identity and UK fitting availability before deciding whether to order now or buy an older set.

First separate the generations

Srixon’s 8 September 2026 announcement introduced second-generation ZXi7 and ZXi5 irons alongside ZXi5+ and ZXiU. The new ZXi5 uses MainFrame iQ, while ZXi7 uses PureFrame iQ. A listing that says only ZXi5 or ZXi7 is therefore insufficient to identify the generation you are comparing.

The current European pages identify ZXi5 with product code MZXI5IRN27 and ZXi7 with product code MZXI7IRN27. Use those references with the retailer, then confirm the actual UK delivery date and build options. A US announcement or a live European product page is not a promise that your local fitter already has the required demonstrators.

Make the fitting about the approaches you need

Choose a middle iron, a short iron and the longest iron you realistically expect to use. A pleasing 7-iron session does not establish whether you can hold a green with the longer clubs. Ask the fitter to record useful carry, peak flight and landing behaviour for ordinary contact, while keeping the current set as a baseline.

Test the head shapes from turf if that is part of the fitting available to you. Note where the sole enters and leaves the ground and whether you can repeat the intended strike. Those observations are more useful than treating a manufacturer’s players or performance description as a fixed handicap rule. The appropriate head may differ within your set.

A combo set needs a measured transition

If ZXi5 long irons and ZXi7 short irons appeal, ask where the transition actually works. Compare the two clubs either side of it, including the worst ordinary strikes. Club numbers alone cannot establish an even gap. Have the fitter specify any loft adjustments and explain their implications before they appear on the order.

Do not automatically blend these irons with another Srixon family simply because the names begin with ZXi. Our Srixon range guide explains why full model identity matters. Use the iron-set comparison guide for broader set-planning context.

What an older set has to prove

An unused previous-generation set can be a reasonable purchase if its actual build meets your needs. Check set contents, shaft, length, lie and the availability of any matching extra wedge. If the attractive price covers fewer clubs than the new quote, calculate the complete replacement set before calling it a saving.

With a used set, request photographs and actual measurements rather than relying on factory specifications. Count the cost of grips and any workshop changes. If a missing long iron would be replaced by a hybrid anyway, that may be acceptable; a missing scoring club deserves a concrete replacement plan. The saving needs to survive these decisions.

Choose a purchase date you can use

There is little value in paying for a new generation that cannot arrive before the period you need it, unless you are comfortable keeping your existing set meanwhile. Ask about the exact order lead time and whether a fitting fee can be applied to the final build. Avoid a rushed order based on a borrowed shaft configuration.

Use the official European model pages to identify the heads, then get a UK quote for the specified build. Search listings can mix generations and club counts, so read the individual description carefully.
