The second part makes it a different purchase from a distance-only watch: you need a correctly configured set of club tags and a willingness to review the resulting rounds. Separate distance information from performance tracking
Shot Scope’s V5 specification sheet describes green and hazard distances, full-hole maps and automatic performance tracking. It also describes app access without subscription fees at the time of this research. Check the current terms and the features of the exact package before ordering; do not assume every separate Shot Scope product has the same recording process.
Choose a practical reason to collect the data. You might want to understand a recurring short approach, compare ordinary outcomes with two long clubs or discuss a pattern with your coach. That question gives the post-round information a job to do. Collecting a large dashboard without deciding what to examine can turn an appealing feature into a chore you stop using.
Set up the tags to match your actual bag
The V5 tag instructions identify 16 supplied tracking tags and explain matching them to the My Bag configuration in the app. That mapping matters more than making a label look tidy. If you change a club, keep its identity clear in the system so later records do not combine equipment under a misleading name.
Follow the instructions for fitting the tags to compatible grips. If a grip or club arrangement creates a question, ask support rather than forcing an attachment. Before the first recorded round, check each club against the app entry. A short deliberate setup is easier than trying to reconstruct which club every incorrectly labelled shot represented afterwards.
Learn the on-course procedure before relying on it
Use the V5 user guide to practise starting a round, confirming the intended mode and handling the putting and score information it requires. A feature described as automatic can still have operating steps and limits. Understand the routine before assuming the watch will infer every detail correctly without your involvement.
Keep that routine proportionate to the round. Prepare the equipment beforehand and use an appropriate practice setting to learn unfamiliar controls. If the interface distracts you from playing or repeatedly makes you uncertain about what is being recorded, investigate the setup. More data is not automatically better when collecting it prevents you from using the device comfortably.
Review the record before interpreting the statistics
Look through the round while you can remember the shots. Check that club assignments and the sequence make sense, and use the intended editing tools when something is missing or incorrect. Keep penalties and unusual recovery situations in context. Removing only disappointing shots can produce a flattering average that is less useful for planning the next round.
Distinguish recorded distance between shot positions from carry distance measured in a fitting session. Roll, lie and playing conditions affect what happened on the course. A pattern in several comparable rounds can give you a useful question to investigate, but it does not automatically identify a swing fault or prove that a new club will fix the result.
Check the whole package and your willingness to use it
For a used V5, confirm the supplied tag set, compatible charging equipment, watch condition and account/setup procedure. Ask the seller to identify any missing components. Compare the cost of completing the package with an equivalent complete offer, rather than treating a low watch-only figure as the final price of a functioning tracking setup.
